Error Message: "Couldn't Allocate DMA Buffer"

Details

I get an error message on my Linux host that says, "Couldn't allocate DMA buffer." What is wrong?

Solution

This error occurs more frequently on 2.2.X kernels. In many cases it is possible to fix it by passing 'dmabuf=1' as an option to the sound module. One way of doing it is by adding the line:

options sound dmabuf=1

to the file /etc/conf.modules (or /etc/modules.conf, depending on your Linux distribution).
