Misleading timeout errors occur when rescanning iSCSI storage adapters

The Error message recieved is:
Timed out waiting for server response

Solution

Note: Before you begin please refer to KB1003490 for important information on restarting the mgmt-vmware service.

 
When you rescan a software iSCSI storage adapter for new storage devices and new VMFS volumes, you might see a Timed out waiting for the server response error message. Despite the error, the rescan completes successfully.
 
Click OK to dismiss the error message.
 
To resolve this pop up error message, please try the below:
  1. Restart Virtual Center server service
  2. In ESX server command line run service mgmt-vmware restart
