Blue Screen Errors after Installing VMware Tools

I installed VMware Tools in my Windows guest operating system, and I get a VGA blue screen when I try to change screen resolutions or when I boot the guest operating system. What happened?

Solution

This has been seen in situations where some sort of remote control software (such as PCAnywhere) is installed inside a Windows virtual machine. Try the following:

  1. Uninstall VMware Tools.
  2. Uninstall the remote control software.
  3. Reinstall VMware Tools.
  4. Reinstall the remote control software.
