EMC AX150i iSCSI LUNs seen as snapshots on ESX hosts

Details

If you have multiple LUNs presented to several hosts, you may experience these symptoms:
  • The first host has no difficulty mounting the volumes, but the other hosts detect some or all volumes as snapshot devices.
  • The vmkernel and vmkwarning logs contain the entry:

WARNING: LVM: ProbeDevice: [vmhba40:0:1:1] detected as a snapshot device. Disallowing access to the LUN since resignaturing is turned off.

Solution

This issue occurs because the AX150i array dynamically assigns LUN numbers to the host depending on the order it was presented to the host.

If more than one LUN is going to be shared with several hosts, present the LUNs in the same order to each host.
