Enable the Bulk-Logged Option for SQL Server Database Before Upgrading to VirtualCenter 2.x. (2603739)

Are there any special requirements for upgrading a SQL Server database?

 

Solution

When you upgrade VirtualCenter 1.x to VirtualCenter 2.x, you must also upgrade the SQL Server database used by VirtualCenter. Before doing this, you need to enable the Bulk-Logged option for the database. Setting Bulk-Logged reduces the number of transactions recorded in the SQL transaction log. This keeps the transaction log from filling during the upgrade.
 
Enable this option by performing the following steps:
  1.  Right-click the database in the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

  2.  Select Properties > Options > Recovery Model.

    Take note of the current setting for Recovery Model.

  3.  Select Bulk-Logged.

  4.  Click OK.

After upgrading, repeat the steps above and reset Recovery Model back to the original setting to disable the Bulk-Logged option.
