Nessus Generates a Warning for Vulnerability at Port 9 with the Ascend Router (2299)

Details

Why does Nessus generate a warning for vulnerability at port 9 with the Ascend router?

Solution

If you are using an Ascend router and the firewall is turned off, Nessus may issue the following warning about unauthorized downloading of arbitrary files:

It was possible to make the remote Ascend router reboot by sending
it a UDP packet containing special data on port 9 (discard).

An attacker may use this flaw to make your router crash
continuously,
preventing your network from working properly.

    Solution:
Filter the incoming UDP traffic coming to port 9. Contact Ascend
    for a solution.

    Risk factor: High
    CVE: CVE-1999-0060
    BID: 714
    Nessus ID: 10019

You may safely ignore this warning. It is a false alarm.
