Excessive Network Error Messages Detected in Solaris 10 Virtual Machine (2258)

I'm seeing the following message in the system log (/var/adm/messages):
NOTICE: pcn: possible RX frame corruption
What's wrong?

Solution

In 32-bit Solaris guests under a heavy network load, the Solaris kernel may periodically write this message from the pcn network adapter driver to the system log. This message is not relevant to a virtual machine environment and can be safely ignored.

If you want to work around this issue, install VMware Tools. Installing VMware Tools changes the guest from the pcn network adapter driver to the vmxnet driver, which does not have this issue.
