Intermittent Virtual Machine Failures with NIS-Enabled ESX Server Hosts (2255)

Details

Why do virtual machines intermittently fail to relocate or clone when associated with NIS-enabled VMware ESX Server hosts?

Solution

You might get intermittent NetworkCopyFault errors when you are cloning or migrating virtual machines on VMware ESX Server hosts configured to use local authentication through an NIS server. You usually see this only when the system is under heavy stress when reading user data from an NIS server.

To solve this problem, temporarily disable authentication with NIS on the hosts and try your operations again.
