Solaris Warning "Stopped tracking Time of Day clock" (2250)

Details

Does the Stopped tracking Time of Day clock warning from Solaris indicate anything serious?

Solution

Solaris might report one of the following messages:

WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [Stalled].
-- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.
WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [Jumped].
-- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.

The warnings are harmless, and you can safely ignore them.

You can suppress the warnings by adding the following line to /etc/system in your virtual machine:
set tod_validate_enable = 0

VMware recommends that you also install VMware Tools in your virtual machine and turn on time synchronization to ensure that time is accurate.
