Older Guest Operating System Exhibits Unusual Behavior (2225)

Details

If I move a virtual machine from a host running ESX Server 2.0 to an ESX Server 3.0 host, will the old operating system Red Hat Linux 7.2 be supported?

Solution

If you are using an old guest operating system in ESX Server 2, such as Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0, SUSE Linux 8.2 or 9.x, or FreeBSD, moving your virtual machine to an ESX Server host version 3 can result in an unsupported state. Refer to the ESX Server Systems Compatibility Guide or the VMware Guest Operating Systems Guide for a list of supported operating systems.
