Auto-Start Is Not Run When Manually Restarting a Host in Maintenance Mode (2214)

Solution

To shutdown or restart an ESX/ESXi Server, the host should be placed into maintenance mode to prevent data loss to virtual machines. Upon restart, however, an ESX/ESXi Server will remain in maintenance mode, and the auto-start manager will not be invoked. If an ESX/ESXi Server host unexpectedly reboots or is power-cycled without being in maintenance mode, then the auto-start manager will still be used to restart the virtual machines.

Workaround 1:
Workaround 2:
  • Manually restart the virtual machines or use the Configuration > Virtual Machine Startup/Shutdown option in VirtualCenter. This option allows you to control the automatic startup/shutdown of virtual machines.
