System Time Accounting Incorrect for Software iSCSI

Details

Why do some virtual machines get a different amount of CPU time than what is set for them?

Solution

Resource management settings (reservation, limit, and shares) for virtual machines using software iSCSI might not be completely effective. Some virtual machines might get more or less CPU time than is set for them. If virtual machines using software iSCSI participate in a DRS cluster, accurate DRS resource allocations, recommendations, and migrations might be affected.

The reason is that CPU time consumed processing iSCSI I/O on behalf of a virtual machine is not charged correctly to the virtual machine.

Workaround: None.
