VirtualCenter's Datastore Browser Does Not Display Virtual Disk Files for Virtual Machines on ESX Server 2.x Hosts (2203)

Details

When I use VirtualCenter 2.x to browse a datastore on an ESX Server 2.x host, I cannot see the virtual disk files belonging to powered-on virtual machines. Why?

Solution

You can see the disk file for a powered-on virtual machine on ESX Server 2.x as an ordinary file if you search for all files and folders in the datastore browser. However, you won't see it as a virtual disk while the virtual machine is powered on.
