Template Upgrade Fails with Error "Name Already Exists" (2196)
Details
When I attempt to upgrade a virtual machine template, the upgrade fails with the error message Name already exists. How can I upgrade the template?
Solution
If a virtual machine exists with the same name as the legacy template, the template upgrade fails. Rename the existing virtual machine, and then upgrade the template.
Note: This issue is resolved in ESX Server 3.0.1.
