Virtual Machines Fail to Power On After a VMFS Upgrade

Details

After upgrading a datastore to VMFS3, I receive the following error message when I try to power on a virtual machine: "Attempt to power on a virtual machine with the .vmx file not stored on a NAS or VMFS version 3 datastore. The virtual machine files must be relocated or VMFS upgraded." How can I power on this virtual machine?

Solution

Some of the virtual machine's .vmdk and .vmx files might need to be relocated to the VMFS volume by using the "Relocate Virtual Machine Files" operation in the VI Client.
