Export Diagnostics Option in the VI Client Might Fail to Resolve Host Names on Other Domains (2187)

Details

Why isn't the Export Diagnostics option working?

Solution

The Export Diagnostics option in the VI Client allows logs and other troubleshooting data to be downloaded from a managed ESX Server machine. The URL used to download the diagnostic bundle, however, currently uses unqualified host names that prevent a VI Client from downloading successfully when the host name cannot be resolved into a fully qualified host name (that is, hostname.domain.com). This typically occurs when the VI Client is being run in a domain different than the domain for the VirtualCenter Server or ESX Server machine being managed.

To obtain the diagnostic logs, try running the VI Client from the same domain as the server, or access and download the needed logs manually.
