Different Error Messages for the Same Event (2174)

Details

Why does the Events tab of the VI Client sometimes list a different error for the same task than the Recent Tasks panel?

Solution

When a virtual machine fails to power on due to a lack of CPU or memory resources, you receive a specific error message describing the failure (for example, "Admission check failed for cpu resource"). This specific message is also shown in the Status column of the Recent Tasks view. The Events tab for the virtual machine, meanwhile, shows a more generic message: "A general system error occurred."

This issue does not affect performance in any way.
