Cannot Power On Virtual Machine That Has two or More CPUs (2159)

Details

Why can't I power on a virtual machine that has two or more CPUs?

Solution

This is a licensing problem. To fix it, you have four choices:
  • Add a host to VirtualCenter and allocate a vSMP license to it. If power on fails, remove and add this host again with a license assigned to it.

  • After allocating a license to a host, wait one or two minutes before powering on the virtual machine.

  • Power on a virtual machine that has only one CPU before powering on any virtual machines with two or more CPUs.

  • Remove and reallocate the license for this host.

Note: This issue is fixed in VirtualCenter 2.0.1 with further fixes in place in VirtualCenter 2.0.2.
