Traffic Shaping Configurations Do Not Appear for Virtual Machine on ESX Server 2.0.2 Host

If I create a new virtual machine using VirtualCenter on the ESX Server 2.0.2 host, select the host, and navigate to the menu Edit > Virtual Machine Resources, I don't see the traffic shaping configurations related to this virtual machine. What is wrong?

Solution

This is a known issue for ESX Server 2.0.2. After you create a new virtual machine on an ESX Server 2.0.2 host using VirtualCenter, select the ESX Server 2.0.2 host where the virtual machine was created, and navigate to the Edit > Virtual Machine Resources menu, you do not see the traffic shaping configurations related to this newly created virtual machine.

To work around this problem, use the VMware Management Interface to configure the traffic shaping setting for this newly created virtual machine. The traffic shaping configuration then appears for this newly created virtual machine.
 
The problem is fixed in ESX Server 2.0.2 Upgrade Patch 1. Please refer to the release notes for further information at www.vmware.com/download/esx/esx-202-200607-patch.html.
