VirtualCenter and "esxcfg-vswitch - l" Show Different Number of Ports

Details

I'm trying to view the number of ports. VirtualCenter shows 24 ports, but the esxcfg-vswitch -l command (to query the ESX Server system) shows 32 ports. I expect both to display the same number of ports. What is wrong?

Solution

The esxcfg-vswitch -l command shows the true number of ports on the virtual switch; however, not all of these ports are available because some of them are reserved for VMkernel. VirtualCenter shows the number of usable ports.
