Dell PowerEdge 6850 Hosts Running ESX Server 3.0 Need A03 BIOS to Install 64-Bit Guests

Are there any special requirements to run 64-bit guest operating systems on Dell 6850 hosts?

Solution

Yes. Dell PowerEdge 6850 hosts that run ESX Server 3.0 must have BIOS A03 (release date 3/15/06) to install 64-bit guest operating systems. Intel's Virtualization Technology (VT) must also be enabled in the BIOS (the default is disabled).

Please see the Dell Web site http://www.dell.com for the BIOS upgrade. Search on A03 to find the files to download for your host. Follow Dell's instructions to upgrade your system's BIOS, and then enable VT in the BIOS.
