vmxnet Not Working under SuSE 9.3 in ESX Server

I changed my SuSE 9.3 virtual machine hardware configuration to use the vmxnet adapter. Now my network connection does not work. Why?

In ESX Server, vmxnet does not work with SuSE 9.3 or other versions of Linux based on the 2.6.10 kernel. Use vlance instead.
