Removing vmware.mui.kid Cookie After ESX Server Upgrade (2073)

Details

How can I remove the vmware.mui.kid cookie after upgrading VMware ESX Server?

Solution

The following versions of VMware ESX Server store obfuscated login credentials for the VMware Management Interface in the vmware.mui.kid cookie:

  • ESX Server 2.0 and 2.0.1
  • ESX Server 2.1, 2.1.1, and 2.1.2
  • ESX Server 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.5.2

ESX Server versions 2.0.2, 2.1.3, and 2.5.3 (and later) store login credentials for the VMware Management Interface elsewhere, and do not use the vmware.mui.kid cookie. Because the vmware.mui.kid cookie is a session cookie, however, it persists as long as the VMware Management Interface login session remains open. This can cause the vmware.mui.kid cookie to remain accessible after an upgrade to ESX Server 2.0.2, 2.1.3, or 2.5.3. The cookie is removed when the user either logs off the Management Interface or closes the Web browser.

To ensure that this cookie is removed, close all instances of the Web browser used to log on to the VMware Management Interface after you upgrade.
