VMware Virtual SAN configuration fails with the error: Found another host participating in the VSAN service which is not a member of this host's vCenter cluster (2062704)

Symptoms

When you configure or deploy VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN), you see a configuration issue message in the vSphere Web Client similar to:

Found another host participating in the VSAN service which is not a member of this host's vCenter cluster

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform these steps to check your Virtual SAN configuration:
  1. Check all ESXi host nodes in the Virtual SAN cluster and ensure their configuration is correct and all Virtual SAN hosts are in the same network subnet.
  2. If you see this message but you do not discover any Virtual SAN configuration issues, it is possible the alert is is false. Ignore the message and provisionĀ a new virtual machine on the VSAN cluster. The message disappears.
