Unable to install or upgrade to VMware vCloud Director to version 5.5.0 when using SQL Server 2005 SP4 (2060068)

Symptoms

  • If you are using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP4 as your VMware vCloud Director database and you try to install or upgrade vCloud Director to version 5.5.0, the installation/upgrade may fail.
  • When the installation fails, you will see an error similar to the following in the vCloud Director logs located at /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.sql.SQLException: Cannot assign a default value to a local variable.

Resolution

VMware is currently investigating this issue.  This is a known problem affecting vCloud Director 5.5.0.  VMware is actively working on making a solution available as soon as possible.
 
This problem occurs only with the specific database version mentioned above. For the full list of alternative supported databases for vCloud Director 5.5.0, please refer to the VMware Product Interoperability Matrix.
