Limitations to Using SRM with Array-Based Replication in Large-Scale Environments (2059498)
The number of LUNs that you protect matters as well as the number of protection groups. More commands are issued with a greater number of protection groups, leading to more delays.
- Install ESXi 5.5, Patch Release ESXi550-201312001 or ESXi 5.1, Patch Release ESXi510-201310401 respectively. These patches enable you to recover up to 255 LUNs in a single recovery plan.

- In a Fibre Channel SAN setup that uses an EMC VNX storage array and an SRM compatible VNX storage replication adapter (SRA), increase the density of LUNs per SRM protection group. Increasing the density of LUNs per protection group helps to improve the total recovery time. For example, if you have 50 LUNs, instead of having 50 protection groups that each contains 1 LUN, create 10 protection groups that each contains 5 LUNs. Workaround: After recovery and reprotect operations have completed, manually log into the console of the array on the protected site and delete any read-only storage groups.
