Upgrading vCenter Server 5.0 to 5.1 and vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.4 Update 1 to 6.5 results in an error when File Filter Discovery is run (2044882)

Symptoms

After upgrading vCenter Server 5.0 to 5.1 and upgrading vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.4 Update 1 to vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5, when File Filter Discovery is run, you see an error similar to:

Cause

The new instance that is created by the SQL Express (VIM_SQLEXP) for the Single Sign On fails to create a connection string in the SqlServerConnections.xml file.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, delete the SQLServerConnections.xml file, then recreate it by manually running file filter discovery.

To manually run file filter discovery:

Launch the vCenter Server Heartbeat Management Console.
Navigate to Applications: Tasks.
Select the File Filter Discovery task.
Click Run Now.
