Purpose

This article provides information on obtaining console and log files in vCenter Protect (formerly Shavlik NetChk Protect), and configuring Trace Logging for the console and deployments.

Resolution

Console Logging

Console installation logging is captured by default in these files:
  • ProtectInstall*.log
  • ProtectSetup*.log

Console installation logging is captured in files that are written to the  %temp% directory.

Application logging levels are configured within the Logging tab of the program options (Tools > Options). All console logging is captured in files that are written to either of these directories (depending on the operating system):

  • C:\ProgramData\Shavlik Technologies\Logs
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Shavlik Technologies\Logs

Deployment Target (Client) Side Logging

When deploying from the console, deployment logging information is automatically be generated on a target machine. Deployment logging information is written to files that are created in these directories on the target machine:
  • C:\Windows\ProPatches
  • C:\Windows\ProPatches\Scheduler
