Virtual machine name appears blank in Virtual Machine Settings of HA cluster (2041995)

Symptoms

After converting a virtual machine to a template, the virtual machine continues to remain in the list of virtual machines in Virtual Machine Settings of HA cluster
The name of the virtual machine is blank

Cause

This issue occurs if you convert a virtual machine to a template when the Virtual Machine Settings ( VM Restart Priority or Host Isolation Response) option has non default settings.

To view Virtual Machine Settings ( VM Restart Priority or Host Isolation Response), go to Virtual Machine settings on HA cluster > vSphere HA > Virtual Machine Options.

Resolution

This is a known issue in vCenter Server 4.x/5.x.

To work around to this issue, before converting the virtual machine to a template, set Virtual Machine settings on HA cluster (VM Restart Priority and Host Isolation Response) to default.
