Provisioning, refreshing, or recomposing View linked clones can result in some virtual machines that cannot be powered on, powered off, or deleted. (2041968)

Details

When you provision, refresh, or recompose a linked-clone pool, a few virtual machines might fail to power on and fail to be deleted. This issue occurs because an ESXi error causes the virtual machines' VMDK files to be locked, making them unreachable.

The virtual machines do not appear in an error state in View Administrator. The automatic recovery feature cannot delete the virtual machines and provision them again. This issue occurs randomly on a few virtual machines in a pool.

Solution

Manually delete the virtual machines in View Administrator.

If this step fails, manually delete the virtual machines in vCenter Server.
