The ESXi syslog log file reports getBBUCapacityInfo messages when using Flash Backup Unit (FBU)/ Flash Battery Backup (2041721)

Symptoms

  • When RAID controllers that use Flash Backup Unit (FBU)/flash battery backup are used as an alternative to Battery Backup Units (BBU), you see this log spew in the syslog.log file:
2012-09-17T07:45:48Z sfcb-LSIESG_SMIS13_HHR[3509]: INTERNAL StoreLibFacade::fireStorelibCommand - caller StoreLibFacadeMR::getBBUCapacityInfo, ProcessLibCommandCall failed, returnValue = 0x3D

Note: Certain RAID controllers use FBU as an alternative to BBU.

Cause

This issue occurs because, unlike BBU cache batteries, it is not possible to query the capacity of FBU.

Resolution

This is a known issue and is currently being reviewed by VMware.

However, these messages do not impact the functionality and can be safely ignored.
