Visual Studio Integrated Debugger plugin for Workstation does not register for all user accounts when using Visual Studio 2012 (2041201)

Symptoms

  • The VMware Workstation installer registers the Visual Studio Integrated Debugger plugin for Visual Studio 2012 only for the user account that runs the installer.
  • Any other user who logs in to the machine and wants to use the Visual Studio Integrated Debugger for Workstation on Visual Studio 2012 cannot access it.

Cause

This issue occurs only with Visual Studio 2012. Workstation continues to properly integrate with Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 for all users.

Resolution

To resolve the issue:
  1. Open Registry Editor on the Windows host.
  2. Locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0\addIns\VMDebugger.Connect registry entry.
  3. Double-click LoadBehavior with type REG_DWORD.
  4. Change Value Data to 1.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.
  6. Reboot the physical machine.

Other users should now be able to use the Visual Studio Integrated Debugger plugin for Workstation.
