After upgrading to or performing a fresh installation of ESXi 5.1, LUNs that were earlier visible in ESXi 5.0 are no longer visible (2040227)

Symptoms

After upgrading to ESXi 5.1 or after performing a fresh installation of ESXi 5.1, you experience these symptoms:

  • LUNs that were earlier visible to the host running on ESXi 5.0 are no longer visible to the upgraded host
  • If ESXi 5.0 is re-installed on the same host, the LUNs are visible again
  • A fresh install of ESXi 5.1 does not render the LUNs visible

Cause

This issue occurs due to an incorrect firmware level of the HBA.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, check with the hardware vendor to ensure that the HBA is at the recommended level. If necessary, update the firmware on all the HBAs of the server.
