Using customized SSL key integrating the FQDN in Site Recovery Manager 5.x results in error: The host name in the Subject Alternative name of the provided certificate does not match the SRM host name (2039269)

Symptoms

  • You cannot use customized SSL keys referring to the FQDN.
  • You see this error:

    The host name in the Subject Alternative name of the provided certificate does not match the SRM host name.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a missing reference to FQDN in VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.x. Currently there is no resolution.
 
To work around this issue, use an IP address instead of the FQDN in the SSL Key.

Impact/Risks

This is a possible security issue.
