Upgrading to vCenter Server 5.1 on Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 with Microsoft User Access Control enabled (2038504)

Purpose

This article provides information about upgrading to vCenter Server 5.1 on Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 with Microsoft User Access Control (UAC) enabled.

Resolution

When upgrading to vCenter Server 5.1 on Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 with Microsoft UAC enabled, you may receive a pop-up asking you to allow the services to install.

This is an expected behavior. When installing on a system with UAC enabled, a security feature requires the account being elevated to have sufficient permissions.

You can either agree to each UAC request, or you can bypass these prompts by right-clicking on the autorun.exe file and clicking Run as administrator.

Note: Installer may hang or fail if UAC is enabled and setup.exe is not run using the Run as administrator option.
