Installing vCenter Single Sign On fails with the error: Error 20010: Failed to configure LookupService (2036497)
Symptoms
- Cannot install vCenter Single Sign On (SSO)
- While entering the database credentials, you see the error:
Database connection has failed. You can refer to the vm-sso-javaLib.log in the system temporary folder for more information.
- Installing SSO fails
- SSO installation reports this error when configuring the Lookup Service:
Error 20010: Failed to configure LookupService
- In the vminst.log file, you see entries similar to:
VMware Single Sign On-build-797273: 09/26/12 10:20:49 Found "C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\jre\\bin\java.exe"
VMware Single Sign On-build-797273: 09/26/12 10:20:50 Process returned 4294967295
VMware Single Sign On-build-797273: 09/26/12 10:20:50 ERROR: Failed to run the command
VMware Single Sign On-build-797273: 09/26/12 10:20:50 Posting error message 20010
- In the %temp%\vm-sso-javaLib.log file, you see entries similar to:

Cause
This issue occurs if the installation is performed using an account that has special characters, such as !, in the username. For example, localdomain\vmuser!.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install SSO using an account that does not have any special characters in the username.
Additional Information
Note: This issue may also occur if IPv6 is enabled on the the guest operating system. In this case, disable IPv6 to resolve the issue.
