Scanning ESX hosts with agent upgrade checker fails with connection error in vCenter Server 4.x and 5.x (2036413)

Symptoms

  • Host scan fails with connection error.
  • The agent upgrade checker log file contains this warning:

    [VCAgentU:Warning :P: 4] 2012-09-27 13:34:26.290 Certificate name OID.1.2.846.113549.1.9.2="1236369588,564d776ds1726ds20496e632e", CN=hostname, E=ssl-certificates@vmware.com, OU=VMware ESX Server Default Certificate, O="VMware, Inc", L=Palo Alto, S=California, C=US does not match host name in VirtualCenter database.

Cause

The hosts that are connected to vCenter Server have unverified SSL certificates.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Log in to the vCenter Server as Administrator.
  2. Under Steps to verify the host ssl certificates, click the Verified checkbox next to each host in Administration > vCenter Server Settings > SSL Settings.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Rescan the ESX hosts.
