Planning Views use different units of measurement for different objects in vCenter Operation Manager 5.x inventory (2036146)

Symptoms

  • Some Planning Views may show a certain unit of measurement for one object in the vCenter Operations Manager inventory and a different unit of measurement for another.

For example, the Oversized Virtual Machine View may show a Recommended Memory value in MB for one object, but shows a Recommended Memory value in GB for a different object.

Cause

This issue occurs due to the way in which numbers are scaled and rounded in the user interface. All values in the same column are scaled to make sense for the data in that particular column. If there are items in a column that are reported in MB, all values will be scaled to be in MB. If all values in a column are in GB, no scaling is done, and all values are reported in GB.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must manually convert units if a comparison is desired between different Planning Views.

For example, to convert from MB to GB, multiply the value of MB by 1024.
