Data Recovery plugin fails to connect to VMware Data Recovery 2.x appliance (2036027)

Symptoms

  • vSphere cannot connect to VMware Data Recovery 2.x appliance
  • Data Recovery appliance datarecovery.log file displays errors similar to:
9/14/2011 16:55:20.000: 0x131203a8: UnixResponder::Respond: starting ssl on socket 57
9/14/2011 16:55:20.000: 0x131203a8: SSLConnection::Read: SSL_read failed with error 1 (error:00000001:lib(0):func(0):reason(1))
9/14/2011 16:55:20.000: 0x131203a8: SSLConnection::Read: SSL_read additional error 336150757 (error:140940E5:SSL routines:SSL3_READ_BYTES:ssl handshake failure)
9/14/2011 16:55:20.000: 0x131203a8: DAG exception: [UnixTCPconnection::read: read failed!]

Cause

This issue occurs when a handshake error causes the VMware Data Recovery 2.x plugin to fail.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, complete the following steps:
  1. Navigate to the sysytem32 folder from the Windows directory (32 bit OS), or SysWoW64 folder (64bit OS).
  2. Locate and rename libeay32.dll within the sysytem32 folder, or SysWoW64 folder.
  3. Restart the operating system.
