- After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion), the virtual machines in VMware Fusion 5 show a black screen when powered on or resumed.
- This issue occurs in Mac Pro 1,1 with an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics card.

To work around this issue, modify the
.vmxfile (the virtual machine's configuration file):
- Open the
.vmxfile in a text editor. For more information, see Editing the .vmx file for your VMware Fusion virtual machine (1014782).
- Add this line to the file:
mks.gl.use32core = "TRUE"
- Save and close the file.
This article only applies to Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
If you are using Mac OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion), you might notice the virtual machine failing while using 3D applications. This occurs only while using VMware Fusion 5.0.2
