Windows 8 32-bit OS might stop responding when E1000 adapter is added on the virtual machine (2035911)

Details

When an E1000 adapter is added to a virtual machine running Windows 8 32-bit, the virtual machine might stop responding. This issue only affects Windows 8 32-bit OS.

Solution

To workaround this issue:

  • If you are attempting to add an E1000 adapter when a virtual machine is powered off, add the following configuration parameters into the .vmx file of the virtual machine:

    ethernetx.interruptDelay = 10000
    ethernetx.delayedInterruptThreshold = 10000

    Where ethernetx is ethernet0, if it is the first vNic or ethernet1, if it is the second vNic.

  • If you are attempting to add an E1000 adapter when a virtual machine is powered on, then reset the virtual machine to resolve the issue.
