        Purpose

        This article provides information on assisting the Tech Support organization and customers who experience the symptoms above during a Single Sign On (SSO) installation.

        Cause

        This error can be caused by the use of the following special characters in the Single Sign On (SSO) administrators password:

        • ^
        • *
        • $
        • ;
        • "
        • )
        • <
        • >
        • &
        • |

        • In some cases a trailing " " space will also cause this issue.

        Resolution

        This is a known issue in vCenter Server 5.1.

        To work around this issue, avoid using special characters in the password.

        Note: The password must have at least eight characters, at least one lowercase character, one uppercase character, one number, and one special character.
