Installing vCenter Single Sign On in an IPv6 environment fails with the error: Error 29114.Cannot connect to database (2035454)
Symptoms
- vCenter Single Sign On fails to install in a IPv6 environment
- Running the netsh interface ipv4 uninstall command with reboot in Windows 2003, Windows 2008, or Windows 2008 R2 in an IPv6 environment fails
- You see the error:
Error 29114.Cannot connect to DB
- In the install.log file, you see the error:
Error: Failed to access configuration database: Network error IOException: Address family not supported by protocol family: create.
Resolution
This is a known issue.
To workaround this issue, use the FQDN or host name of the vCenter Server system instead of the IP address. The best practice is to use the FQDN, which can change if assigned by DHCP.
In addition, you must reinstall the IPv4 interface using this command:
netsh interface ipv4 install.
Alternatively, in the Windows system, navigate to the Change Adapter Settings dialog and deselect the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option.
