Upgrading from Workstation 8 to Workstation 9 (2034040)
Purpose
Resolution
To upgrade from VMware Workstation 8 to VMware Workstation 9, you can use one of these options:
After the upgrade to VMware Workstation 9 is complete:
- When you start VMware Workstation, you may be prompted for an available upgrade. Click Upgrade Now to perform the upgrade.
- From within Workstation, click Help > Software Updates.
- Download the full installer from the VMware Web site, and run the installer to perform the installation. For more information, see Installing Workstation in the VMware Workstation 9 Documentation Center.
Note: VMware Workstation 9 can be downloaded on the VMware Workstation download page.
After the upgrade to VMware Workstation 9 is complete:
- Upgrade the virtual hardware version:
- Click Upgrade Hardware version in the VM Summary page.
- Follow the steps in the Wizard and then click Finish when the process is complete.
- After upgrading the hardware version, power on the virtual machine and update VMware Tools:
- Click VM > Update VMware Tools. The VMware Tools installation Wizard starts in the virtual machine.
- Follow the steps in the Wizard and then click Finish when the process is complete.
- Restart the virtual machine.
