Eligibility for free license upgrade of VMware Fusion and VMware Workstation are based on the purchase date.

Customer who have purchased the product online would receive the free upgrade licenses by 30th September, 2012.

For products purchased in a box, customers must submit the license(s) and proof of purchase online before 31st October, 2012.

Customers who have purchased VMware Fusion 4 between 25th July, 2012 and 30th September, 2012 are eligible for a free upgrade to the VMware Fusion 5.

Customers who have purchased VMware Workstation 8 between 1st August, 2012 and 30th September, 2012 are eligible for a free upgrade to VMware Workstation 9.

Customers who have purchased VMware Fusion and VMware Workstation with a subscription can obtain the free license key from their account in My VMware.

The licenses that are eligible for an upgrade can be upgraded from the My VMware account. For more information, see Upgrading licenses in My VMware (2006974).

Customers who have an eligible license for VMware Fusion 4.x would be able to upgrade the licenses to the VMware Fusion 5.x Professional , where as customer with eligible licenses of VMware Workstation 8.x will be able to upgrade the licenses to VMware Workstation 9.x.
