vCenter Single Sign On and dependent services fail to start after you reboot the system (2032749)

Details

When you restart the system where vCenter Single Sign On is running, services that are dependent on Single Sign On, such as vCenter Server, fail to start. On Windows systems, the MSSQL (VIM_SQLEXP) service does not start. This problem occurs because the MSSQL server instance is configured with a static port that was taken over by another application when the system was rebooted.

Solution

  1. Use netstat -o or netstat -b to locate the application that took over the port.
  2. Reconfigure the application to use a different port.
See KB 2033516 for information about changing the port.
Alternatively, change the port of the MSSQL (VIM_SQLEXP) server instance.
