Upgrading to vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1a from 4.x fails on an Oracle database with the error: PLS-00905 STATS_ROLLUP2_PROC is invalid (2032277)

Symptoms

  • Upgrading from VMware vCenter Server 4.x to 5.0 Update 1a fails on an Oracle database.
  • When installing via the media VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.0.0-757163, the VCDatabaseUpgrade.log reports an error similar to:
PLS-00905: object STATS_ROLLUP2_PROC is invalid
ORA-06550: line 1, column 99:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JOB", line 82
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_JOB", line 140
ORA-06512: at line 39
  • You do not experience this issue if you upgrade from VMware vCenter Server 5.0 or 5.0 Update 1 to 5.0 Update 1a on an Oracle database.
  • Also, you do not experience this issue if you upgrade from VMware vCenter Server 4.x to 5.0 Update 1.
  • Fresh install of VMware vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1a does not encounter the issue.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1b. You can download this update from the VMware Download Center.

VMware recommends not installing vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1a if have downloaded and not installed it.
 
Note: If you are using an Oracle backend database, you can upgrade directly from vCenter Server 4.x to vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1b.
