VMware Fusion compatibility with OS X Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8) (2032208)

Purpose

This article provides compatibility information on VMware Fusion and OS X Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8).

Resolution

VMware Fusion 5.x supports OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) as both a host and a guest operating system. For more information, see VMware Fusion homepage.
 
If you want to use VMware Fusion 4 on OS X Mountain Lion (Mac OS X 10.8), you must update to the most recent version of VMware Fusion 4 available before upgrading your Mac to Mountain Lion.

To check if you are running the latest version of VMware Fusion, launch it and go to VMware Fusion > Check for updates from the menu bar.

Notes:
  • Versions of VMware Fusion 4 older than 4.1.3 do not launch on Mountain Lion.
  • VMware Fusion 3.x is incompatible with Mountain Lion. It was released in October 2009 and was optimized for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard. VMware Fusion 3 is no longer being updated for newer versions of Mac OS X.
If you have VMware Fusion 3.x or a version of VMware Fusion 4 older than 4.1.3 and have already upgraded to Mountain Lion, you will not be able to launch VMware Fusion. Fusion 3.x users should upgrade to Fusion 5.x. Fusion 4.x users can either upgrade to the most recent version of VMware Fusion 4 or upgrade to Fusion 5.x.

Note: Always download the most recent version of Fusion 4 or 5. For more information, see Downloading and installing VMware Fusion (2014097).
