Selecting a QD dropdown shows unfiltered selections and endless pick lists (2021650)

Symptoms

In Service Manager 9.x, when you click the dropdown arrow next to a QD field on some screens, you may see:

  • The list contains selections that do not relate to the kind of QD field referenced. For example, you see Configuration Item choices when selecting from a Person or Officer QD.
  • The list contains italicized and non-italicized options.
  • When selecting an option in the dropdown, you must select the next level (that is, the child) of that selection, and this can lead to an endless loop of selections. For example, you click on Location, then Office, then Location, then Office, and this continues endlessly.

This issue occurs on the Manage CMDB Item task in Workflows, but may also occur in other locations in the system.

Cause

This is caused by the failure of a query to filter the selectable options by the QD field referenced on some screens.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting VMware Service Manager 9.x. A resolution for this issue is being evaluated for inclusion in a future release.

Once this information becomes available, this article will be updated with the patch information.

To work around this issue:

Use the non-italicized options in the selection dropdown. These items are selectable and relevant to the QD field referenced.
