Maximizing the number of virtual machines that are powered on or off during failover in VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 1.x / 4.x / 5.x (2020552)

Purpose

This article provides information on maximizing the number of virtual machines that are powered on or off during a failover in vCenter Site Recovery Manager.

Resolution

To maximize the number of virtual machines, spread out the shadow virtual machines across multiple hosts to increase the speeds. Any discrepancy you observe is likely due to the number of hosts or where the shadow virtual machines are hosted.

Alternatively, you may create smaller recovery plans and run them in parallel for enhanced results.

"Virtual machines in all other priority groups are recovered serially per ESX host to enable a group of machines that spans several hosts to recover in parallel. During this type of recovery, machines on a specific ESX host are recovered in the order specified by the list, but the recovery order of the entire list is subject to the assignment of virtual machines to hosts. For example, if the first three normal-priority virtual machines are hosted on one ESX host and the fourth is hosted on a different ESX host, the fourth machine in the list might be recovered before the second or third."
